SSVC Taps: Robert “Pat” Sherlock ’67 passed away August 15, 2020

Good evening,  it is with sadness that I tell you of the passing of Robert “Pat” Sherlock ’67 on August 15, 2020.  Pat was the Class President.  He was in the Electric Shop, he was on the Football, Basketball, and Track teams.  He sang in the Chorus and the Choir.  Thank you for keeping Pat’s wife Annemarie, his sister Nancy, his brothers Chris ’69, Mike ’72 & Steve ’72 and his entire family in your thoughts and prayers.  The following are addresses if you would like to send a note/card of sympathy.

Obituary

Robert (known as ‘Pat’ to his brothers and sister) was born March 17, 1949, to the late Harold and Madeline in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He attended Scotland School for Veterans Children in Chambersburg PA, where he graduated at the top of the class in 1967. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971 and joined the United States Navy following graduation. He served 6 years of active duty as a part of the “Silent Service” including assignments to the USS Nautilus and the USS Pargo, while stationed in Groton, CT. He was married to Annemarie in 1975. After being honorably discharged from active duty in 1976, he moved with Anne to Palmyra, NY, where he began a 40+ year civilian career that included process engineering support to various manufacturing firms and managerial support for independent senior living facilities. In 1977 he rejoined the Navy as a reservist, and served an additional 19 years, reaching the rank of Commander. While working full time, serving as a reservist, co-parenting two young girls, and supporting Anne while she obtained her MS, he also obtained an MS in Chemistry from Rochester Institute of Technology. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, home improvement projects, and apple pie with ice cream.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Madeline.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Annemarie; his daughters, Jessica and Kate; his siblings Chris, Mike, Steve, Nancy, and their families.
The family will receive friends from 11 am – 12:00 pm on Friday, August, 21 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St. Apex, NC 27502. A funeral service will take place immediately following in the Chapel. Burial to immediately follow at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Rd. Goldsboro, NC 27534.
