Good afternoon, it is with sadness that I share the news that Joe Beckner ’61 passed away 4/17/2024. Joe was in the band and Art Club at SSVC. He is survived by his sisters Susie Beckner Pinsky ’63, Betsy Beckner Hendricks ’64 and her husband (his brother-in-law) Bob Hendricks ’61, and Robert Beckner ’67.
There will be a graveside service on Friday April 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Norland Cemetery, 2295 Philadelphia, PA, Route 11, Chambersburg, PA. Phone 717-264-6546.

Obituary
Joseph D. Beckner, Jr. 82, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024 in his home. Born April 17, 1942 in Chambersburg he was the son of the late Joseph D. Beckner, Sr. and Janet L. (Kell) Beckner.
He was a graduate of the Scotland School for Veterans’ Children with the Class of 1961. Following that Joe served with the United States Air Force from July 18, 1961 until his honorable discharge July 16, 1965. He was employed in electronics at Letterkenny Army Depot where he worked on the Patriot and Hawk Missile Systems as well as working on radar for the missiles. After retiring from Letterkenny he went back to work for a private contractor on the depot. Joe enjoyed golfing, traveling with his wife, and spending time with family and friends visiting and telling stories. He was a talented and artistic man who liked crewel embroidery, plastic canvas art, and woodworking in his younger years, even building the house he raised his children in.
He is survived by four children, Jo-Ann “Candy” Delaney (Matt) of Hummelstown, PA, Joseph Kozlowski, Jr. (Amy) of Harrisburg, PA, Joseph Beckner, III (Crystal) of Waynesboro, and Audra Green (Thomas, Jr.)of Chambersburg; nine grandchildren, Alex Delaney (Evie), Chase Kozlowski (Brina), Sarah Hayden (Michael), Katherine Smith (Andrew), Jacob Beckner, Natalie Beckner, Laura Wallace (A.J.), Denise Brown (Dustin) and Garet Green; five great grandchildren, Aleigh, Aria, Kandon, Daimen, and Harper; and five siblings, Suzanne Pinsky of St. Thomas, PA, Betsy Hendricks (Robert) of Chambersburg, Robert Beckner (Kathy) of Cottonwood, AZ, Charles Green (Jackie) of Orrstown, PA, and Judy Peters (Bill) of Oklahoma; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and Duane Thomas (Cona) who was like a son to Joe. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy “Dottie” (Sackett) Beckner who passed away January 3, 2024 and an infant great-grandchild.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association at www.heart.org .
