Good afternoon, It is with sadness that I share the news that Mr. Leland Schaffer (94), Cosmetology Teacher passed away on December 26, 2023. The Services will be private.
Leland L. Schaffer, 94, formerly of Bender Avenue in Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Chambers Pointe Health Care Center. Born October 15, 1929 in Kunkletown, PA, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Gertrude Wagner Schaffer. Mr. Schaffer was a graduate of the Palmerton High School and attended the Rudemar School of Beauty, the Philadelphia Institute of Barbering, and the University of Maryland. He was employed for 30 years teaching barbering and cosmetology at the former Scotland School for Veterans’ Children. He was also self-employed in lawncare for 30 years. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church; George Washington Lodge #143 F & AM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest #145, and the Harrisburg Consistory, and the Federation of Clubs. He was also a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Burt J. Asper Post 46 AMVETS, and the Adams County Fish and Game Club. His wife, Edith A. Silfies Schaffer, whom he married April 28, 1951, preceded him in death on November 28, 2020.
He is survived by his daughter, Charlene Van Scyoc (Randal) of Chambersburg; son Thomas Schaffer (Lori) of Fayetteville; grandsons Daniel (Jessica) and Jacob; and sister, Phyllis Gump (John). Aside from his parents and wife, Leland was preceded in death by his sisters, Gladys Smith and Shirley Quier.
Services will be private. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA.
